1. Do you need a certification to be a Commercial Drone Pilot?

Yes! In order to fly drones commercially, you’ll need to get a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

This ensures that you are indeed a professional pilot, with all the knowledge and skills required to fly a drone safely.

2. Can you take photos and videos anywhere?

This depends strictly on where and in which Airspace Class you’re intending to fly. If the flight plan is executed in a restricted airspace, a flight authorization must be requested to the FAA.

3. What is the maximum height the drone can reach?

The FAA allows a max height of 400ft AGL(Above ground level). If you’re less than 400ft away from any structure, you can reach up to 400ft above the highest point of this structure. Ie. If an antenna is 1200ft high, the drone max flight altitude can be 1600ft.

4. What is the range of the drone?

The drone can technically fly in a range up to 4 miles away from the PIC(Pilot in Command) within VLOS(visual line of sight). In real life there will always be all sorts of interference which will not allow the PIC to have visual line of sight or the signal between the drone and the remote controller to work that far. A real average range can be around 2 miles.

5. How much time does it take to shoot?

It depends what is required by the plan of flight, weather, Airspace and clients requirements (For example a Basic 15 picture job can take around 15–30 depending on the location, Risk assessment, Airspace, weather and finally finding that awesome shot your looking for!)

6. Can you shoot on cloudy days?

Yes, you can create footage on cloudy days depending on the cloud percentage. There are gigs which give you a cloud % limit and it usually averages 50% of cloudiness.

7. Can you film at night?

Yes, you can as long as you have a Daylights Operation waiver and Anti-Collision navigation lights.

8. Can you shoot when it’s drizzling?

In adverse weather conditions, drones are at risk of being in contact with water which can burn their circuits and motherboard just as a computer. To fly a drone while it’s raining or snowing you should have a drone wetsuit which protects it.

9. What is the cost range of DSV photography services?

Drone photography ranges between $200/hr to even $5,000 per session. It all depends on the application and the time it will need to process the images.

In Drone Sky Visuals, packages are tailor made to your needs, starting from a beginner’s pack of 10 photos at $150 all the way to edited videos, data processing, risk mitigation and progression assessment!
